Zero to Dream Job in 90 Days!
Day # 16 Nanny Life
Snippets of life as a Nanny in Finland:
*Trudging down the long driveway in the snow to get the bucket of herring the fisherman dropped off and carry it home to cook for breakfast.
*Loading the wood burning stove with kindling to get the fire going to cook the herring.
*Eating the most delicious array of breads you’ve ever tasted and gaining 15 pounds.
*Cross country skiing to the doctors office and back for a sore throat.
*Trying to wake the children up when it’s still dark at 9 AM.
*Visiting with the lady next door who is 90 and still draws her water from the well (and has to break the ice first).
*Waiting in extremely cold weather for the grocery bus to visit the village.
*Taking turns making up snow songs on the piano in the third blizzard of the week.
*Going swimming in the community pool and taking a sauna with all the naked ladies.
*Eating (or not eating) a cows huge tongue for dinner.
*Sliding off the icy road with the children in the car and waiting for someone to help you push it out of a snowbank ten feet tall.
*Taking a class to learn the Finnish language and failing to learn more than five words.
*Volunteering at the most wonderful international school and being offered a job.
*Falling head over heels off the Potkukelkka (kicking sled) and being amazed that you are still in one piece.
*Meeting a friend for life, at the British Folk Club Society.
*Smelling the melting snow, the ground thawing and hearing the first bird of spring singing, had to be the most beautiful of all!
